Nov 11, 2011 8:28pm Days 25 and 26 - The Weekend and BBQ Chicken with Melitta's BBQ Sauce --Fantastic!!

Well, it was that time of the day, later in the afternoon, when you feel your feet dragging, are quite lethargic and feel as though you could just curl up and take a little nap, and are just a little out of sorts and you know you just need a quick pick me up and burst of energy to get you through the day.  That’s how I felt as I excitedly poured myself a deeply rich, aromatic cup of Melitta’s Costa Rican Tarrazu, scooped up two of those Guatemalan Chocolaty Coffee Muffins I had made yesterday that tasted so sweet and chocolaty, and contentedly sat down at the computer to see what delectable dish I...

Nov 11, 2011 7:34pm Remembrance time with Melitta

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a great day. But as for many of us, it was very bitter sweet because of remembrance day. People may or may not have had a friend or family member in the war but I think I can say that all took a minute of silence in the respect of the veterans this morning. It was even more special because today is 11-11-11.

So out of respect to our veterans I dedicate this short but sweet post to them. Lest we forget.

Nice having coffee with you!

-Naj

Nov 11, 2011 7:30pm Thank you

Remembrance Day is such an important day to pay our respect for the men and women who  go out to fight for our freedom and way of life.  It sadden my heart to hear of how some people can steal the poppy boxes or destroy the headstones in cementries.  It warms the heart to hear of others stepping in to replace these bad deeds.

Seeing a poppy is so potent.  It touches the soul and brigs to mind of the ultimate sacrifice that our soldiers have given to us.  Let us NOT forget.  Let's do as much as we can for these brave soldiers.

Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank...

Nov 11, 2011 5:39pm Let Us Remember

"In Flanders Fields"

By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

We will remember them.

Nov 11, 2011 3:20pm Battle of the Beans - Overwhelming Melitta Me-Time Response and Survey

Me-Time responses have been overwhelming.  Readers have send comments, photos, recipes and much much more.  Sunitha and I were overjoyed by an email from our friend Zain who is originally from Guatemala, but now a proud Canadian.  He send us breathtaking pictures of Guatemala while opining that world and consumers should support fair trade – it may mean nothing to us, he says, but it makes a BIG difference at the grassroot level.  The farmers and their families get a fair deal and communities get access to health care, drinking water, medicines etc.  I remember the time we met Zain in Guatemala and...
